Privacy Policy

Last updated 18 October 2026

1. Who I am and why this policy exists

This website is operated by Owen Magocha (“I”, “me”, “my”), a sole operator based in New South Wales, Australia. You can contact me about privacy through the contact form.

This policy explains what personal information I collect through the website and its related services and how I use and share it. It also sets out the choices and rights you have.

Many small businesses are exempt from the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). Whether or not that exemption applies to me, I choose to handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) in that Act. This policy is written on that basis.

This policy applies to this website only. Any professional or business activities I am involved in outside this website are separate and have their own privacy arrangements.

2. What I collect

I collect only what I need for the purpose you are using the website for.

Join the membership Your name, email address, login details, membership tier and billing history.
Visit the website Technical information that web servers record automatically, such as your IP address, browser type and the pages requested.

Sensitive information. I do not ask for sensitive information, such as information about your health, religious beliefs or ethnicity. However, you may choose to share it, for example in a coaching session or in a message responding to an article about faith or family. I will only collect and use sensitive information with your consent and only for the purpose you shared it for.

Anonymity. You can read articles and download free PDFs without telling me who you are. You can also contact me using a pseudonym if you prefer. I need your real name and email address to process purchases, coaching bookings and memberships.

3. How I collect it

I collect personal information:

  • directly from you, when you fill in a form, subscribe, buy, book, enrol, register or email me;
  • through the service providers that run parts of the website, such as payment, booking and membership providers, who pass me the details needed to fulfil what you have asked for; and
  • automatically, through the hosting provider’s server logs when you visit the website.

If someone gives me information about you (for example, a parent booking for a young person), I will handle it under this policy.

4. Why I use it

I use your personal information to:

  • send The Sunday Reflection and any other emails you have signed up to;
  • reply to your enquiries and “Get involved” submissions;
  • process payments, deliver digital products, ship books and send related messages (such as download links and order updates);
  • schedule, deliver and follow up coaching sessions;
  • provide course access, run Live Sessions and manage memberships;
  • handle refunds, cancellations and complaints;
  • keep the website secure and prevent fraud or misuse; and
  • meet my legal, tax and accounting obligations.

I do not sell or rent your personal information. I do not use it for advertising profiles.

Marketing emails. I will only send you marketing emails, such as the newsletter or news about new products, if you have agreed to receive them or where the Spam Act 2003 (Cth) otherwise allows. Every marketing email includes a way to unsubscribe. If you unsubscribe from marketing emails, I may still send you messages you need, such as receipts, booking confirmations or membership notices.

5. Service providers I use

I use third-party service providers to run the website. They handle personal information on my behalf or as needed to provide their service. They use it only for that purpose.

Provider What it does What it handles
Netlify Hosts the website and receives form submissions (newsletter sign-ups, contact and “Get involved” forms). Form submissions; server logs (including IP addresses).

Video-call platform (named in your booking confirmation) Online coaching sessions and Live Sessions. Name, email and session participation data.

Membership provider (named at sign-up, when the Circle opens) Membership accounts and login. Name, email, login details, membership tier.
Ticketing platform (named on the event page, where used), if used Event registration and ticket sales. Name, email, payment and registration details.

Each provider has its own privacy policy, which applies to its handling of your information. I will update this table when I add or change a provider.

I may also share personal information with my professional advisers (such as an accountant) where needed. I may also share it with others where I am required or authorised by law to do so.

6. Overseas disclosure

Several of my service providers, including Netlify, Stripe, Calendly and PayPal, are based in the United States. Others may be based or store data in the United States or other countries. This means your personal information may be stored or processed outside Australia, mainly in the United States.

Before using a provider, I take reasonable steps to check that it handles personal information securely and in a way that is consistent with the APPs, for example by reviewing its privacy and data-protection terms.

7. Cookies and analytics

Cookies. This website itself uses only essential cookies or similar technologies, if any, that are needed for it to work (for example, to keep you logged in to a membership or course account). It does not use advertising or tracking cookies.

When you use a third-party service through the website, such as Stripe Checkout, Calendly, PayPal, a video-call platform or the membership provider, that service may set its own cookies, for example for security and fraud prevention. Those cookies are governed by that provider’s policies.

Analytics. I do not currently use any website analytics tools. If I add analytics in future, I will update this policy before doing so and describe what is collected.

Email. If the newsletter moves to a provider such as Kit or Mailchimp, that provider may record whether an email is opened and which links are clicked. This information is used only to understand which emails are useful. This policy will be updated before the change.

8. How long I keep it

I keep personal information only for as long as I need it for the purpose it was collected or as required by law. As a guide:

Information How long I keep it
Newsletter subscription Until you unsubscribe, after which your email address may be kept on a suppression list so you are not emailed again.
Contact and “Get involved” messages Up to 24 months after our last exchange, unless the message relates to a purchase or booking.
Purchase, payment and refund records At least 5 years, to meet Australian tax record-keeping requirements.
Coaching booking details and any session notes Up to 3 years after your last session.
Membership and course accounts While your account is active and for up to 12 months after it closes (billing records are kept as above).
Server logs As retained by Netlify under its standard practices.

When I no longer need information, I take reasonable steps to delete it or de-identify it.

9. How I keep it secure

I take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference and loss, as well as from unauthorised access, change or disclosure. These include:

  • using established providers with appropriate security measures;
  • not storing card details myself;
  • protecting my accounts with strong passwords and two-factor authentication where available;
  • limiting access to personal information to me and, where needed, people assisting me who are bound to keep it confidential; and
  • keeping coaching notes, if any, in secure, access-restricted storage.

No method of transmitting or storing information online is completely secure. If a data breach occurs that is likely to result in serious harm to you, I will notify you and, where required, the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC). I will also take steps to contain it.

10. Accessing and correcting your information

You can ask to see the personal information I hold about you. You can ask me to correct it if it is inaccurate, out of date, incomplete, irrelevant or misleading. You may also ask me to delete it, subject to any information I must keep by law.

To make a request, email me through the contact form. I may need to confirm your identity first. I will respond within 30 days and will not charge you for making a request. If I refuse a request, I will tell you why in writing and how you can complain.

You can update your newsletter preferences or unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email. Membership details can be updated through your account.

11. Children and young people

The website and its paid offerings are not directed at people under 18. I do not knowingly collect personal information from children without the consent of a parent or guardian.

Where a coaching or mentoring arrangement involves a person under 18, I will only proceed with the written consent of a parent or guardian. I will collect only the information needed for that arrangement.

If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has given me personal information without your consent, contact me and I will delete it.

12. Complaints

If you have a concern about how I have handled your personal information, please contact me first through the contact form with details of your concern. I will acknowledge your complaint within 5 business days and aim to respond in full within 30 days.

If you are not satisfied with my response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC):

The OAIC will generally expect you to have raised the complaint with me first and given me a reasonable time to respond.

13. Changes to this policy

I may update this policy when my services, providers or the law change. The updated version will be posted on this page with a new “last updated” date. If I make a significant change to how I use your information, I will tell subscribers and members by email.
